Governor Okpebholo Freezes State Bank Accounts, Renames Ministry to Investigate Previous Administration
Governor Monday Okpebholo ordered the immediate freezing of all state-owned bank accounts on Thursday. In a statement issued by his spokesman, Fred Itua, the governor explained that the move was necessary to scrutinize the activities of the previous administration.
The directive instructed all commercial banks, as well as the heads of ministries, departments, and agencies, to comply with the order.
"All bank accounts in commercial banks are now frozen. Banks must adhere to this directive and ensure that no funds are withdrawn from government coffers until further notice," the statement read.
In addition, Governor Okpebholo announced the renaming of the Ministry of Roads and Bridges to the Ministry of Works.
"It’s ironic to name a government institution the Ministry of Roads and Bridges when not a single bridge, not even a pedestrian bridge, was constructed by the previous administration," the governor remarked. He added that in the coming days, more actions and decisions would be made in the best interest of the state following a review of the previous administration's activities.
